Gillian Anderson

Actress Gillian Anderson is well known for her portrayal of Agent Dana Scully (X-Files, Fox Broadcasting), DSU Stella Gibson (The Fall, Netflix), Dr. Jean Milburn (Sex Education, Netflix), and her most recent role as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (The Crown, Netflix) for which she won a Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild (SAG) award. However, over the years, her role has expanded to activist, author and advocate.

Less than two years ago, Gillian Anderson released a co-authored book with journalist Jennifer Nadal titled, “WE, A Manifesto for Women Everywhere.” Strand Bookstore in partnership with New York Society for Ethical Culture invited Anderson & Nadal to discuss their writing process and thoughts on the importance of this work; especially, during this political time.

In February 2019, Anderson starred as Margo Channing in the staged production of All About Eve, produced by Sonia Friedman, one of the most well known theatre production companies in West End London. It was a success. Monica Dolan won an Olivier Award for her role as Karen Richards, Channing’s best friend, as best supporting actress. Margo Channing, an aged theatre star, welcomes a young yet scheming fan, Eve Harrington (played by Lily James, Guernsey), as her mentee. Deception, manipulation and really bad timing go hand in hand in this lively production.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE | ST. ANN’S WAREHOUSE | BROOKLYN

In April 2016, St. Ann’s Warehouse brought A Streetcar Named Desire to Brooklyn soil directed by Benedict Andrews. It opened in London at The Young Vic starring Gillian Anderson (X-Files, The Fall), Ben Foster, and Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Uncle Vanya).

St. Ann’s Warehouse produced a production with stark, hard soundscapes, accompanying a rotating stage that leaves the audience in shock and chaos. It leaves you yearning for some for of light for the characters and even for yourself within this dark portrayal of class, family and loss in this Tennessee Williams play.
